Paper plate spider
(Bug and Insect crafts for kids)
Supplies Needed:
paper plate
construction paper
pipe cleaners(chenille stems)
paperclips, pennies,or buttons
tape, crayons, scissors, string
Cut out eight strips of construction paper 1 inch wide and 11 inches long. Fold them back and forth like an accordian. These will be the spider's legs. The paper plate will be the spider's body. Make a spider's face on the bottom of the plate. Put a paper clip on the end of each leg to add weight to the spider's "feet". If the paper for the legs is rather stiff, more weight may be needed. Buttons or pennies can be taped on. Poke a hole in the center of the plate and attach a length of string through the hole, taping it to the plate or tying a knot in the string. Experiment to find the right balance point so the spider doesn't tilt too much. Hold the spider by it's string and see how it walks along the floor, and jumps onto chairs.
Egg carton caterpiller
(Bug and Insect Crafts for Kids)
Supplies Needed:
egg carton(cardboard or styrofoam)
paint, paintbrush
crayons or markers
scissors
chenille stem(pipecleaner)
wiggly eyes
glue
Cut through the center section of an egg carton, making the long 6 cup section, the body of the caterpiller. Paint the outside and set aside to dry. Or use markers and crayons rather than paint if you prefer. Poke two holes at the top of one end of the caterpiller. Make the antenna by bending a chenille stem through the two holes. Glue on the wiggly eyes beneath the antenna or draw eyes on with a marker. Draw on a mouth.
Bumble Bee
(Bug and Insect Crafts for Kids)
Supplies Needed:
empty toilet paper tube
black and yellow paint
pencil
clear tape or glue
small scrap of black construction paper
black marker
round cup
scissors
With a pencil, draw equally spaced lines around the tube for the bee's stripes. Paint yellow and black alternating stipes for the bee's body. Let paint dry. With a black marker, draw on eyes and a mouth at one end of the tube. Trace around a cup on wax paper to make a circle and cut out. Repeat again for a second circle. These will be the bee's wings. Fold the wax paper circles in half to keep them from flopping down when taped on the tube. Tape the wings to the top middle part of the tube. Cut out a small triangle from the black construction paper and tape to the inside other end of the tube for the bee's stinger.
Paper plate ladybug
(Bug and Insect Crafts for Kids)
Supplies Needed:
small paper plate
red and black tempra paint, paintbrush
wiggly eyes

Paint the bottom of the paper plate red. Let dry. With the black paint, draw on lines to form the ladybug's head and wings. Paint on black dots on the wings for the ladybug's spots. Let dry. Glue on wiggly eyes and draw or paint on a mouth.
