Paper plate spider(Bug and Insect crafts for kids) Craft Supplies Needed: paper plate Cut out eight strips of construction paper 1 inch wide and 11 inches long. Fold them back and forth like an accordian. These will be the spider's legs. The paper plate will be the spider's body. Make a spider's face on the bottom of the plate. Put a paper clip on the end of each leg to add weight to the spider's "feet". If the paper for the legs is rather stiff, more weight may be needed. Buttons or pennies can be taped on. Poke a hole in the center of the plate and attach a length of string through the hole, taping it to the plate or tying a knot in the string. Experiment to find the right balance point so the spider doesn't tilt too much. Hold the spider by it's string and see how it walks along the floor, and jumps onto chairs.
