American Flag Sand Painting
Supplies Needed:
4 c white sand
dry red and blue tempera paints
sturdy cardboard
picture of the American flag
white glue
clear plastic spray for sealing
paper cups
Mix 1/3 of the sand with 1 1/2 Tbsp dry red tempera paint. Mix another 1/3 with 1 1/2 Tbsp dry blue tempera paint and leave the remaining sand white. Draw a flag design on sturdy cardboard or glue a paper copy of the American flag onto a piece of sturdy cardboard. Working with one color at a time, spread glue over the marked-off design, sprinkle the colored sand over it, let dry, then shake off extra sand. Repeat the process with the other colors. When dry, seal with clear plastic spray. You can find a coloring page of the American flag
here.
3-D Paper Stars
These three-dimensional stars look so attractive and especially hanging where they will be seen from all sides.
Supplies Needed:
red, white and blue cardstock(or similar thick paper)
pencil
scissors
glitter glue
pin
cord or string
Draw a large star on each of the colored pieces of cardstock, or use this
star template.
Cut one star from a point to it's center. Make a cut in the other star from between two points to it's center. Align the cuts and slide the stars together to make a three-dimensional shape. Pierce a small hole through the point where the two stars meet and thread the cord or string through to make a hanging loop. If hanging these 3-D stars outside we use foam sheets to make the stars.
USA Windsock
Supplies Needed:
8 1/2 x 11 inch white craft foam sheet
blue craft foam sheet
hole punch
string
red ribbon or red crepe paper strips
scissors
glue
1. Draw and cut out several stars from the blue foam sheet.
2. Using a hole punch, punch holes approximately 1 inch apart down the length of both short edges of the white foam sheet. With the string, weave together the short edges of the foam sheet to form a tube. Punch two holes; one on either side of the top of the tube and attach a ribbon to hang up the windsock.
3. Glue on the blue stars to the tube.
4. Punch holes along the bottom edge of the tube and tie on red ribbon or red crepe paper strips to the holes.
