1.Snowman Ornament

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
-White glue (like Elmer's glue)
-Paper clip
-Waxed paper
-Scraps of construction paper: black, and orange
-A hole punch (for cutting eyes, and buttons)
-Scissors
-Googly eyes (from a craft store) – optional
-Tiny buttons - optional
-2 very tiny twigs (for arms)
-String or yarn (for hanging it)
-Silver or white glitter

Working on waxed paper, spread 2 or 3 blobs of white glue in the shape of a snowman. Unfold a paper clip into a V-shape (to use as a hanger).

Cut a tiny hat from black construction paper and put it on the snowman on top of the paper clip hanger. Put the ends of the paper clip into the glue at the top of the snowman. For the snowman's eyes, use black paper circles cut with a hole punch, or use googly eyes. Put the eyes on the snowman. Add a tiny orange (carrot-shaped) nose. Add a few paper buttons (or small real buttons) down the front of the body.
Sprinkle with glitter.
Let the glue dry - it will take a few days. When it dries, the glue will become transparent. When it is completely dry, peel it gently off the waxed paper. String the snowman on some yarn to use as an ornament.

2.Glitter Scene

Submitted by Nancy
Supplies Needed: glue, glitter, black paper
What You Do:
Have your children paint a winter scene on black paper using glue. Before the glue dries sprinkle glitter all over it. This makes a lovely winter scene. Supervise preschoolers to ensure they don’t get glitter in eyes or put in mouth.

3.Glittering Snowballs

Submitted by Carla
Supplies Needed:balloon, glue, yarn, glitter
What You Do:
Blow up a small balloon for each child. Have them dip yarn pieces into a mixture of glue and water. Then have them put the yarn over the balloon. Have them do this until the balloon is mostly covered. Finally, pour glitter over the balloon and let dry. When it is dry you can pop the balloon and remove it. These are fabulous snowballs for a winter theme.

4.For realistic looking snowflakes paint precut snowflakes with a thick mixture of Epsom Salt and Water

5.Empty thread spools make great snowflake prints.

6.For a great winter paint mix white tempera paint and glitter, it has the consistency of snow paint sold in stores but is much, much cheaper.

7.Mitten Collage

Submitted by Felicia
Supplies Needed: Butcher paper, construction paper
What You Do:
Cut out the shape of a mitten from butcher paper. Have them glue on small squares of construction paper to form a collage type look.

4. Tips and Quotes
Tips:
1.Pine Cone Hints
When making things with pine cones, first bake the cones on a foil-lined cookie sheet for about 45 minutes to an hour at 200 degrees. This kills any bugs or spider mites that live in them. This also allows the seeds to fall out and sap to dry up.
